Safety Requirements for Family Visits to SNL/CA
GENERAL
- Obey all posted guides, regulatory, and warning signs and devices.
- No horse play or running (especially in the buildings and stairways).
- Watch what your children touch. (Sandia is not child safe.)
FAMILY MEMBERS SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER AREAS:
- Where Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
is required. Examples of PPE are, but not limited to, safety glasses, goggles, face shields,
ear plugs, chemical resistant, or thermal protective gloves, and/or clothing, safety shoes,
hard hats. (These areas may be entered ONLY if all activities that require PPE have been
totally suspended.)
- Designated as construction spaces.
- Designated as confined spaces.
- Where class 3b or 4 lasers are in operation.
(Operational of class 1,2, or 3a lasers where no alignment activities are being performed is
acceptable for demonstrations).
- Where explosives are present including
rooms, magazines, and fenced areas.
- Where Radiation Areas are present and accessible.
(This includes radiation generating devices such as radiography, accelerators, and x-ray diffraction.
FAMILY MEMBERS SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED ON OR IN:
- Bicycles
- Carts, forklifts, cranes and all other
powered industrial equipment. (Seat belts shall be worn while in vehicles.)
- Ladders, scaffolds, lifts, building roofs
or other elevated work surfaces.
