THE BACCHAE

Euripides - University of Montana 1975 - Director Roland Mienholtz

This production was "magic time in the theatre". At the end of one performance a row of seventh grade girls were heard saying "That was far fuckin out!".

The production concept was based in the director's extended research and artistic intrigue with native American drama, Kabuke and masked drama in general. Added to that was the choreographer's background in Hatian dance. Out of this combination we arrived at a style: "Greco Aztec Contemporary Primitive". This production was operatic in approach as well as a dance movement piece. Every move was choreographed and accompanied by "music" composed for the production.
