HEARTBREAK HOUSE BY GEORGE BERNARD SHAW

Production at the University of Montana 1975

The artistic premise underlying this production is that these characters are living a life like birds in a guilded cage. To this end, exaggerating the Poiret fashions of the period just prior to W.W.I give a sense of their plumage.

The costumes are layered. As the play proceeds the layers of the characters personalities are stripped away. Echoing the stripping away of the characters psycholoical makeup as the play progresses, the layers of clothing progressively come off.
