October 1, 2002

You are invited to join your fellow Sandia, California employees in "Lighting The Way In Our Community" by participating in the Livermore Employees Assistance Program (LEAP). LEAP is a program run for and by Sandia employees to raise funds to help charitable organizations provide assistance in our local communities to those in need.

Last year 70 percent of the employees participated in LEAP and we collectively pledged over $213,000. The level of support at this site is truly outstanding, and was recognized by the Tri-Valley Community Champions Award to Sandia, CA employees on September 28, 2000. More important than recognition among other employee groups, however, your support is "Lighting the way" by providing relief and aid to thousands in our communities. On behalf of these people and the providers of these services, this year's LEAP committee thanks you for your support.

If you are currently contributing, please consider increasing this year's contribution. If you are not yet participating, please consider the needs of others and make a commitment to contribute. If everyone makes such a personal commitment, we will exceed our goal to provide over $235,000 next year to individuals who need our care and assistance.

You can learn more about the LEAP campaign, Umbrella agencies, and your role in LEAP by visiting the website at http://www.ca.sandia.gov/leap2002/ or clicking on the LEAP Spinner on the Sandia/CA Home Page. At the LEAP Fair on October 16, 2001, you have the opportunity to have fun while you learn about the services provided by many agencies, including the group of selected "LEAP Agencies" listed on the website. The Tri-Valley Community Fund has provided substantial support in preparing for the LEAP campaign and distributes contributions to designated agencies without charging any fees.

Making a gift is easy too. Use the website to designate the amount of your regular or one-time payroll deduction, and the service providers you wish to support. You may access the donation form directly at https://sierra-xa.ran.sandia.gov/leap.nsf . If you want your contributions to go to specific organizations other than the Undesignated Fund for LEAP Agencies, you must designate the agencies online or submit a paper form this year. To check your current level of contribution, select the "My Benefits" button on Sandia's Home Page. Your center representative is available to answer any questions you may have about contributions.

Even if you choose not to contribute, please so indicate using the website or paper form so that we know you were informed and had the opportunity. We always appreciate hearing from you regarding ways that the LEAP campaign can be improved to increase your interest in participation.

Thank you for giving this matter your kind consideration.

Sincerely,

Larry A. Rahn
LEAP Committee Chairperson
