What is LEAP and how are agencies chosen
to participate?
|
LEAP (Livermore Employees Assistance Program) is a program run
for and by Sandia employees to raise funds to help charitable
organizations provide assistance in our local communities to those
in need. Each agency being considered, new or ongoing, is assessed
annually to ensure eligibility under the LEAP charter. LEAP agencies
must be non-profit, non-discriminatory, non-political, not members
of United Way, properly licensed by the state or federal government,
and must operate in an area in which Sandia employees reside.
Of course, each agency must also have that special something that
makes them a unique and integral asset to the community.

Why is it important that I respond
if I am not giving?
|
We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to donate.
Without a response, it is impossible to tell whether you are choosing
not to donate, or have simply forgotten to respond.
|
How can I tell what I contributed last
year?
|
There are two ways to check last year's contribution. You can
look on your pay stub - it will show the dollar amount you deduct
if you have weekly payroll deductions, or, on the My
Benefits page, select the blue button for Livermore Employees
Assistance Program in the center column near the bottom of the
page.
|
Why isn't my favorite agency on
the list?
|
There are a number of reasons why it might not be: (1) it may
be a United Way agency, and this can't be considered for LEAP
agency status, (2) it may not meet LEAP agency criteria, (3) it
may never have been nominated for consideration as a LEAP agency.

What is the IRS regulation for documenting
charitable donations? How does this work with LEAP?
|
The IRS regulation (Publication 526) states the following: "For
contributions of $250 or more that you make after 1993, you can
claim a deduction only if you have an acknowledgment of your contribution
from the qualified organization. In figuring whether your contribution
is $250 or more, do not combine separate contributions. However,
two checks written on the same date to the same qualified organization
may be considered one contribution." For LEAP, this means
that, if you make a one-time contribution of $250 or more, you
will receive a receipt from LEAP that you should save as part
of your documentation.
|
Can I make out a check to a specific
agency rather than LEAP?
|
We can only collect LEAP donations through a payroll deduction.
|
Can I "write in" more than
one agency?
|
Yes. You can "write in" up to 3 agencies.
|
Can contractors contribute?
|
We do not solicit donations from a contractor because they are
not "employees" of Sandia. If you wish to contribute
you must contact the agency directly.
